Wines

Pengally Lane Wines are made in the style that is essentially fruit driven. Yeasts are chosen to promote the development of fruity esters during fermentation. Young wines are taken off lees early to preserve fruit flavours.

The wines go well with modern cuisine of simple and clean, though sometimes angular flavour combinations. The wines are more elegant and approachable rather than big and bold.

Early drinking wines have a certain freshness about them; they need to have the right combination of mid palate weight, oak characters and mouthfeel, fruit and alcohol designed into the wine. By concentrating on structure and balance from the outset, excellent wines in this particular style are achievable.

Merlot 2013

This is a superb wine, with subtle nose, intense colour and a strong chocolate taste over a berry palate. Colour is deep red, tending to black. Viscosity is obvious with arches prominent when wine is aerated in the glass. Strong integrated flavours are complimented by the luxuriance of chocolate and a suggestion of acid which helps define the taste sensation. The aftertaste is moderately long and ill defined, giving a playfulness to the tasting experience.

Whites

Unwooded Chardonnay 2013

Plenty of peachy fruit with nice acid. A great summer wine. Clear and bright with a subtle, fruity nose. Crisp, with less complexity than the barrel fermented style. A smooth finish with good length. A well-integrated wine of balanced proportions. Perfect for a day at the races or quaffing with nibbles. Goes with cheese and any white meats including fish.

Wooded Chardonnay 2015

A clean and clear white. Inviting vinous nose. Well structured wine with a little overt fruit and a range of subtle yeasty, biscuity and dairy characters from fermentation and aging on lees. Sweet

Luscious Red Lips 2011

A sweet, low alcohol fun wine made from ripe Cabernet grapes. Luscious!

This wine was fermented until half the sugar was metabolized, then sterile filtered and bottled.

The wine displays the berry and plum flavours of the Shiraz variety along with luscious sugars and has a nice balance of acid and sweetness.

Needs to be chilled. Sensational with fruit or not-too-sweet desserts. A very pleasant low alcohol quaffer

Price: $10.00 per bottle

Moscato Giallo 2016

Mocato Giallo is made from the yellow muscat grape and very little of this has been planted in Australia. This grape yields a moscato style wine that is sweet without the over-the-top confectionery flavours. The fruity nose is complemented by intense sweetness and muscaty flavours and crisp, balancing acidity. Low in alcohol: only 5.4% which is less than half of that of most wines. Quaffs beautifully. Goes with not-too-sweet sweets like berries and cantaloupe.

Price: $10.00 per bottle

VP Fortified Shiraz 2008

VP Shiraz is a rich and sweet single vintage fortified. It is intense, fruity and luscious with a strong tannic backbone. Barrel aging for two years has contributed to the wine's early maturity for this style. Ready to drink now. It will probably throw a sediment in future and need decanting. Potential as a desert or after dinner wine.
